Windows XP Tips That Require Editing the Registry
From time to time we will be adding Windows XP Tips that require editing the registry.

Before editing the registry make a backup. Use the System Restore utility. This utility is used for making backups of the registry and other parts of the system. It's simple to use and shouldn't be avoided because you're afraid of damaging something.

To backup the registry go to the Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. The choices are to Create A Restore Point [Backup] or Restore My Computer To A Earlier Time [Restore].

Restore or review Restore Points

Select Restore My Computer To A Earlier Time. The next window will enable you to view Restore Points by date. To restore select a date and a Restore Point and click to Next button. Next page is a confirmation page. Read carefully and follow the instructions. To restore click the Next button.

If just reviewing Reastore Points the click the Back button.

Creating a Restore Point

Select Create A Restore Point to create a Restore Point. Click the Next button. Give Restore Point a name. Click Next. The Restore Point will be created.
